RIDE SYNC

Ride Sync is a navigation app for motorcyclists. It needs to know where you are, and during a group ride it shows that to the people you chose to ride with. It does not sell your data, does not advertise, and contains no analytics or tracking software of any kind. Nothing is reported about you in the background: if the app crashes it asks you first.

Location is collected only while you are doing something that needs it: navigating, recording a ride, or taking part in a group ride. While any of those is running, Android shows a permanent notification saying so, and location continues with the screen off, because a motorcycle navigation app that stops working when you lock your phone is useless.
It stops when you stop. End the navigation, stop the recording, or leave the group ride and collection ends with it. Nothing runs when you are not riding. Ride Sync does not collect location when you are not using it, and does not use location for advertising or profiling.
Your live position is visible to the other riders in that group ride, and theirs to you. That is the entire point of the feature. It is visible only to people in the same ride, only while the ride is running, and it stops the moment you leave.
Your position is sent to the riders in your group so they can reach you. The notification they receive on a locked phone contains only your name and the word SOS. Your location is not in the notification itself, so it is not exposed on a lock screen.
It is not sold, and it is not shared for advertising. Ride Sync uses three service providers, which process data on our behalf in order to make the app work:
Beyond these, nobody receives your data. There is no analytics provider, no advertising network, and no crash-reporting service in the app.
There is no crash-reporting service in Ride Sync. When the app falls over it writes what happened to your phone and does nothing else. The next time you open it, you are asked whether to send that report, and shown exactly what it contains before you decide. Say no and it is deleted.
A report carries the error and where in the code it happened, the app version, and your phone's model and Android version, because most crashes turn out to be one particular phone or one particular Android release. It does not carry your location, your rides, or anything you have saved. Feedback you send from Profile works the same way: your message, and your account so we can reply.
Sharing a ride creates a link. Anyone who has that link can see the route, its distance, duration and any pins on it, without needing the app or an account. The link does not reveal who rode it: no name, no email, nothing identifying you travels with it.
There is no expiry and no way to revoke a link once shared, so treat it the way you would treat sending somebody a photograph. Deleting the ride, or your account, makes the link stop working.
Your rides and saved places are kept until you delete them or delete your account.
Your live position during a group ride is deleted when the ride ends, along with the notification token for it, and anything left behind by a ride nobody formally ended is removed within a day. Records of finished group rides are deleted after 90 days. Leaving a ride removes your membership of it immediately.
Open Ride Sync, go to Profile, and tap Delete account. This is immediate and cannot be undone. It removes:
Any group ride you were hosting is ended rather than deleted, so the riders in it are not stranded mid-ride. Rides that other people hosted remain theirs; you are simply removed from them.

You can see and edit your profile in the app at any time, and you can delete everything as described above. Depending on where you live you may also have the right to a copy of your data or to object to its processing. Write to the address above and we will act on it.
Everything sent between the app and our servers goes over an encrypted connection (HTTPS/TLS). Access to your data is restricted to your own account by database-level rules, so one rider cannot read another rider's rides.
Ride Sync is for licensed motorcyclists and is not directed at children. It is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be announced in the app's release notes.
